As a photographer I have been trained to capture the moment and the memory. The beauty of the bride. The emotion of a first dance. I was trained to make them look perfect, for their perfect day.
Motherhood is the imperfect.
It is the day literally never unfolding as planned. It’s a mind, body and soul that is pushed and pulled in so many directions. The mother in us wants to hide, to let everyone else be in the shot, but the Photographer in me has the keen sense that Mom is “the shot.” She needs to see the connection between her and her child, because she may not always feel it. She spends so much time doubting, questioning, and wrestling with herself. But she’s the heartbeat of this family. She has a story that deserves to be beautifully captured, remembered, and honoured.
I’m here to disrupt the generational cycle of mothers hiding behind the camera, and work with every mother to get her into the shot. I’ll capture for her, exactly the story that she wants to tell about her motherhood.
