A mix of documentary, lifestyle, and portrait imagery to honor the time when your bodies are one. Celebrate your new journey with a session focused on the power, and miracle, that is within your strong body.

*Recommended for 28-36 weeks

Hey mama, congratulations on your new babe!

I have my fingers crossed for you that you’re over the someone-find-me-a-bucket-NOW phase and into a sweet spot of your pregnancy.

In the busy-ness of preparations for Baby, it’s not often that we set aside time to mindfully slow down and appreciate what our body is doing. From Doctors appointments, hunting for the safest bassinet, and figuring out what the heck a pump flange is - our headspace is so occupied- that it’s easy for these 40 weeks to fly by. Your maternity session is the perfect way to slow down and celebrate the everyday miracles that happen during this process.

Even through the exhaustion, back pain, and nausea, your body is diligently making another human. If that’s not worth celebrating, then I don’t know what is. While you’re physically growing your little nugget, YOU grow mentally and emotionally too- and I know all of these growing pains aren’t always comfortable and/or fun. But man… is it oh-so worth it for the first time you hear, “I love you, mommy.”

No matter how your pregnancy journey has gone so far, we’ll craft a session together that you’ll look back on in 30 years and see the strength, confidence, and beauty that truly defines you as a mother.

FAQ

  • Feel a little nervous? It’s totally normal. Most of us feel like we’re a little awkward in front of a camera! But… I’ve got you.

During the photoshoot, don’t worry if you don’t know what to do. It’s my job to direct you so you don’t feel awkward or uncertain. Most people just automatically look at the camera and smile, but I’ll probably tell you to look out the window, or down towards your belly, or tilt your chin to the sky. I’m sure you have lots of photos in your phone of you looking at the camera and smiling – I want these portraits to be, and feel, different for you.

I find that some of the most authentic images come when you’re absorbed in whatever it is you’re doing, whether that’s making your partner laugh, talking to the tiny human in your womb, or running your hand through tall grass. I promise I’ll let you know when to look at the camera. Until then, just do your thing and let yourself be.

  • This is an important one to get right – most people aren’t up for two maternity sessions in the same pregnancy. :) But the answer isn’t so clear cut.- it’s different for everyone. So, how do you know?

As a rule of thumb, anytime between 28 and 36 weeks (depending on physical health & bump size) is a good time. But babies will arrive when they want to, so if you’re having twins or you suspect your little one might be making their big entrance into the world early, it’s safer to do it sooner rather than later. If you’ve been pregnant before, chances are you’ll show earlier, so you could book earlier. The earlier you book, the more options we’ll have with posing and location!

  • Let’s make this as easy as possible for you. That is to say, let’s shoot somewhere with easy access to a bathroom, is not too far from the parking lot, and doesn’t require you to hike extensively to get there. :)

I know that sometimes choosing a location can feel pretty overwhelming – there are so many beautiful and photogenic places in this world. But I’m interested in places that hold a special significance for you. This could be your living room, your backyard, the local arboretum, the beach, or your favourite park. Where do you feel most connected and relaxed?

Don’t worry if nowhere comes to mind, I have so many places up my sleeve that I know you would love. Let’s chat about it.

  • Not much! But, depending on how your pregnancy is unfolding, doing a shoot could be really energizing or really exhausting. Sometimes, it’s a combination of the two. I feel confident in my ability to take gorgeous photographs of you regardless of whether we’re in your living room or on the beach – but I don’t want to push you beyond your capacity. I’d rather play it safe so that you feel relaxed enough to focus on just enjoying yourself and capturing this super special time in your life.

The day before the shoot, if we’ll be outdoors, throw some things in a bag that will support you during our session. These things could be the following, or whatever else comes to mind.

    • Weather add ons: a wrap, sweater, etc

    • Snacks/water

    • If you love music, feel free to bring that portable speaker

    • Any touch-up makeup needed

    • If you often experience nausea, bring aids such as sour candies, ginger, etc

We’ll have more flexibility at home as far as comfort goes, but it all depends what YOU would love for your session.
